Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from my first class?
Starting something new can be intimidating but you can always expect a warm welcome from us, we were all white belts once so we know how this feels.
The class will consist of a warm up and then a structured lesson. You will work in pairs so if you are super nervous, bringing a friend to train too may help. It's a great way to meet new people as well!
Classes are mixed unless you are attending the women's only class. Everyone else will be a beginner and in the same boat as you, there is no need to worry.
It will be a relaxed vibe and a fun learning environment, no drill sergeants here!
I have never done any combat sports before, I'm super nervous!
The course is designed for beginners with zero experience. You do not need to be fit, you just need to start! There will be no sparring in the beginners class. It is purely technique. Your confidence will build as the weeks go on and you understand the positions more.
I don't want to get hurt or beaten up!
The classes will be aimed at beginners so there will be no sparring. Coaches will be supervising all the time and will take care of you. The classes will concentrate on theory and technique.
I want to get my Black belt!
Signing up is certainly the first step but don't try to worry too much about grades, put the work in and the grades will naturally come, as with life, enjoy the journey! There aren't many grades in BJJ but it can take about 10 years consistent training to get to Black belt.
What do I need for class?
You do not need a Gi/Kimono (martial arts uniform) to participate in the beginners class, sports clothing will be fine i.e. shorts, t shirts, leggings. Please remove jewellery as this may cause injury. Bring a drink!
If you are nervous about starting then why not arrange a private class? These can be done on a 1-2-1 or 1-2-2 basis. Please contact us for more information.
